Machine Builder

Quick Summary:
Opus is looking for an enthusiastic, experience and capable machine builder.
A big part of our product are complex mechanical structures and machines like robot tooling, conveyors, part fixtures etc.
We need a person to take a set of drawings and using in-house and external resources, make, fit, and assemble these components and
ultimately the complete automation cell. Resources may include machining, welding, and programming/operating CNC machine tools.
Some of the job responsibilities are:
- Build and test prototype machinery and automation to verify methods and concepts.
- Machine components from blanks or blocks to meet design goals as laid out in technical drawings using machine tools, power saws, power shears,
rules and hand tools.
- Fit and assemble those parts to build assemblies using hand production and measurement tools.
- Inspect finished equipment for operation, reliability and appearance.
- Lift position and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists/rigging equipment, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates.
- Select metals to be used from a range of metals and alloys, based on properties such as hardness and heat tolerance.
- Setup and operate conventional \ lathe, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions
and finishes.
- Set up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly.
- Study technical drawings, sketches, models and/or written specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, or assemblies.
- Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers,
gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.
- Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies, based on specifications.
- Design fixtures, and templates for use as work aids in the manufacture of parts or products.
- Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, bill of materials, machine-tool build assembly drawing.
- Devise and detail assembly plans for the machine-tool build and integrator process.
- Assemble and integrate pneumatics and hydraulics, electrical components, power transmission systems, conveyor systems and feeder systems.
- Sub-assemble machine tool components.
- Integrate automation system complete assemblies.

- Working conditions are normal for a shop environment with travel required.
- Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
- Must be flexible in adapting to business changes.
- Will be required to work with all personnel after project delivery to find improvement opportunities in methods, materials and manpower to
ensure continued quality improvements in customer deliverables.

Education, Experience, and Capabilities:
As a qualified machine builder candidate, you must have successfully completed an Apprenticeship or have had 2 to 5 years
experience in an automation-building environment. In addition, you will need to have a certificate of qualification as one of the following:
- Millwright
- General Machinist
- Tool Builder and Integrator
- Tool and Die Maker.
